Born on February 20, 1954 in Tyler, Texas.

The thing I really wish I had had, that I couldn't have controlled, I always say this, is that if I had the technology that students have today, there's no telling where I would be today. You know? You know, I had, I grew up in a world, in a academic world with no internet. I mean, I just, I can't even fathom what it was like now. I'm thinking, oh, my God, did I type papers? Or did I, how did I do all that?

How do you, even the simplest things, you know? I don't know why I think of this. So as you know, UT is a big campus. And so you end up at a particular college, and you might have, say, friends that are at different colleges on the other side of campus that you never see really at school, ever. But I can remember there was a handful of us and we were all in different colleges, and we would occasionally meet somewhere for lunch between class. And so when I think about that simple little thing that we did, I’m like, how did we know where to meet? I mean, it wasn't like we all got out of class and everybody texted each other and said meet at Joe’s Hamb- or Whataburger or whatever.

We had to have planned it the day before at least, and called on a land phone and caught everybody and told them. I mean how did that even work? How did, how did we ever pull that off that we were able to do that? You know?
