Robert “Bobby” Cross

Born in November, 1962 in Miami, Florida.

I started reading a thing in National Geographic about this guy doing the Appalachian Trail. So I went down there, guitar in hand, and started walking. That started my journey in life as far as, like, a Forrest Gump story in a sense. And so I just started, you know, walking and started riding freight trains. I'm in El Paso, I've been riding freight trains for two months. Which now I'm waiting to head back to Utah for perhaps the winter time, which I will be outside again, which I have been for 41 years. And it's been extraordinary. Because the harder it gets, it seems the easier, because I've been doing it for so long.

You know, I'm glad to be poor, material-wise. But inside I'm, I'm the richest man, I think around. You know? Because I'm fulfilled, you know? Because that adventures is the, you hunger for it. You got to have it. You got to climb that mountain. You got to survive that next element come at ya. Like a blizzard or subzero temperatures. You know? We have to build you a snow cave or. And you got to do what you got to do, you know? Or you get bit by a snake. You got to, you got to sweat it out. Cause I don't got no phone. I'm out in the swamp somewhere.

Kind of hard to connect with folks. I’m countercultural, big time. I don't, I don't want that stuff. I can tell my directions. If the skies are clear, the stars, you know? And I never get lost. Pretty easy to find water if you know what you're looking for. You can always sweat the trees or whatever with a, you know, you find like a green, a mesquite, or anything in the desert. Or a maple or anything. Tie a plastic bag around it. You might just get a half a cup of water, but half a cup of water will get you, will save your life too. Or you can get a vine, and cut it and put a cup underneath that. All vine, all vines that grow in the forest have water in them. And you can get you a pretty good pint and a half or something.

All right, Ponce de Leon, he was a conquistador looking for the Fountain of Youth in Florida. And I found it, I know it's at. It’s, it’s the love you have in your heart, which is unconditional. That is the fountain of youth. If you're happy in your heart that something's good. You're doing good and you’re achieving your goal, that is the fountain of youth to me, you know? Outside wears down like an old book. The pages inside remain the same.

I do a lot of old stuff. CCR, Hendrix.

That’s all folks, y’all come on back now.
