Ronney Herrera
Born on October 11th, 1974 in Nuremberg, Germany.
So I had a heart attack. And it was on my son's birthday. And we had went and played laser tag with his friends. And not long after that, I collapsed, and I didn't, I didn't feel anything. I was in tremendous shape. I was prepping for a, kind of like a triathlon. And that morning I had ran, had ran ten miles, biked fifteen, went to my son's birthday, and, and then later that, that afternoon, before evening, is when I collapsed. And, yeah, I didn't remember anything other than everything kind of leading up to that.
And, lucky for me, I wasn't too far away, we didn't live too far away from Tampa General Hospital. Probably one of the better hospitals in the United States. And I was lucky that one of their best cardiac surgeons was on, on duty that night. I was able to get, resuscitated in the E.R. and, yeah. I was basically in a coma for, oh man, almost two weeks. And then it was about that time period that I came out, and, you know, my, my family was pretty much preparing, kind of for my last rites and everything. Because the doctors weren't sure. And even if I had made it, they had thought maybe I was going to have some brain damage.
But, hey, everything worked out, and, it was kind of a slow return, but I saw the writing on the wall, and I'm like, it's time, it's time to leave the Marine Corps. And I had tremendous support from my leadership. And I guess God told me, like, it's time to slow down and do something else. So.
Stress is, a lot of people don't give, lack of a better term, don't, don't really, don't give stress credit. It, it can take a toll on it, on the body. And, and you won't know until it hits you. Yeah. Managing stress is, I think, something, something basic that everyone needs to be aware of and, and to try to do something to manage, you know, stress in your daily life.
